The process of selecting and purchasing a safe is not easy. There are several factors to consider when choosing a safe. Let’s start with the main questions, the answers to which will help you decide on the choice of a safe.

What will be stored in the safe?

The answer to this question will help you determine the necessary type of safe protection. The higher the value of the valuables you are going to store in the safe is, the higher the type of protection you need.

According to the type of protection, there are safes:

  • fireproof;
  • burglar-proof;
  • fire-resistant.

Fire-resistant safes withstand a high-temperature threshold (the temperature outside the safe is up to 1010°C, inside the safe — up to 170°C), they have a double-walled housing with a special fire-resistant filler. The time of fire exposure to the safe is calculated in minutes and determines its class. For example, an LFS 30p safe guarantees that valuables will remain safe for 30 minutes.

Burglar-proof safes protect money, valuables, and documents from possible hacking attempts and provide authorized access to the contents. Safes of this type have a double-walled body, which is filled with a special burglar-resistant filler (fortification concrete, reinforced concrete, super-strong reinforced fiber concrete), they are equipped with certified high-security safe locks.

To protect the contents from the effects of fire and burglary, fireproof safes have been developed. These are combined double-wall safes that provide reliable protection of your valuables and documents.

For safe storage of weapons, burglar-proof weapon safes are necessary. They prevent unauthorized access to weapons and prevent accidents. Weapon safes can hold from 1 to 13 guns and are also equipped with shelves, a separate lockable compartment for storing ammunition and documents for weapons.

How big should the safe be?

Choose a safe based on the volume of all valuables that will be stored in it. It is recommended to add another 20% to the calculated volume of valuables, given that the safe is bought in use for a long time, and the volume of valuables may grow.

Important! It should be borne in mind that the internal dimensions of the safe are smaller than the external ones, especially for filled double-wall safes that have a protective layer with a special filler.

What type of lock should I choose?

There are different types of safe locks. As a rule, the lock is chosen for ease of use, the frequency of opening the safe, the degree of burglary for certified locks. Main types of locks include:

  • key lock;
  • electronic code;
  • mechanical code;
  • combination of different types of locks.

An additional advantage is the delay system for opening the safe, which is implemented in safes with an electronic code lock M-LOCKS manufactured in the Netherlands.

The key is the most standard version of the lock. There is no need to remember the combination of the code, due to simplicity and ease of use, as a rule, the key is delivered in 2 copies with a spare key.

Electronic code locks are easy to use; they are usually coded for 6-8 digits of the password. You do not need to carry a key or remember complex combinations of numbers, locks are easily and simply encoded with a unique password.

On a mechanical code lock, characterized by a high degree of reliability, three pairs of numbers are used for encoding. It is one of the oldest and most basic options for blocking safes.

Combined options provide for completing the safe with two types of locks, which increases the degree of its reliability.
