Choose a safe

If you’ve never encountered a safe purchase, even if you have never had to use it, and at the mention of this subject your imagination draws images from the old Soviet films about spies, but now you have suddenly faced with the task of purchasing a safe, you should surely read this article. The manufactures of safes stepped a little further than a simple man can imagine. By the way, along with production the progress has been achieved by the hunters behind safes.

Before you go to the store and puzzle sellers of safes with their concerns, you need to answer a few questions. This is even more important that not always a safe range even in a specialty store is so wide that it has exactly the model that will work in your specific case.

First of all, what is the room where the safe will be installed?

If you have a flat a safe of a small size will be enough. However large or small (especially up to 70-80 kg) safes should be anchored to the wall or to the floor or you should thing where it can be embedded. In most cases, flat thieves never try to open the safe in the apartment, in order to avoid unnecessary noise, and try to get it to do the hacking procedure in a comfortable environment. Therefore, the mounting system of the safe will not allow the crook to simply carry it together with your values. When buying a safe please note: there should be mounting holes on the rear and/or bottom wall of the inner side. It should be mounted with anchor bolts of solid steel, which can withstand the load at break from 500 kg to 3 tons (length from 5 to 30 cm, diameter 5 to 20 mm).

The area of a country house, as a rule, will allow you to have multiple safes. This is the perfect option. In one box you can store values, and in another, for example, documents. Pure psychology plays here: even finding a safe, the robber cannot guess about the existence of the second. As in the case of apartment safe, you should think how to attach the safe to the wall or floor.

The safe in the office should be chosen depending on the estimated volume values. The storage of print can be done by a safe of the minimum size for important documents and papers – it should be better a safe of medium size. In the office safes can look like “chest-of-drawers” with drawers and hanging file system type.

What, in your opinion, will endanger the contents of the safe to the greatest extent?

Alas, most safes can protect your valuables from all adversity: from thieves, from fire and from breaking. So try to choose a priority, and already depending on this you should buy a safe: burglary or fire-resistant. According to statistics there is one case of cracking the safe per nine cases of fire in the room with it.

You will need fire-resistant (fireproof) safe, if the main object is an important document. And you will be guarded from thieves and random eyes by passing on guard or simply putting a metal door. The maintenance space of fire resistant safes is filled with refractory concrete having low thermal conductivity. However, this concrete is unlikely to protect the safe from cracking. The fire resistance of the safe determines the time within which the safe will not exceed a critical value under the influence of fire temperature inside the safe (usually 60 or 120 minutes, maximum 4 hours), and the type of value storage (“B” – money, documents, securities; “D” – the same, plus magnetic disks and tapes, cinema and film; “DIS” – all of the above and floppy disks).
